The Clyde Coast - Background
The Clyde Coast concept was initially conceived as an identity for a unique part of the South coast of NSW that was not adequately promoted by the traditional shire based tourism authorities. It is under this identity that the region has been promoted on the Internet by Morningside for some years.
In a broader context than tourism however, this region also needs to identify itself so as to have some say in the decisions that are taken in Moruya and Nowra (and elsewhere) that are likely to have an effect on the people and their amenity in the region. Many examples can be cited on such decisions such as Shoalhaven Council's plan a few years ago to establish a "mega tip" on a tributary of the Clyde River off Woodburn Road. Discontent with the proposed location of the (in)famous "Charcoal Plant" at Mogo have had Eurobodalla councillors talking about alternative locations such as Nelligen, East Lynne and Termeil.
There would seem to be a need for a "Clyde Coast Community Association" which could insist on being involved in such decision making and to represent the views and opinions of residents and ratepayers. The tourism promotional activities currently being discussed would need to similarly consider such issues.
Morningside's Clyde Coast promotions to date have been aimed at improving the commercial viabilty of its clients establishments while attempting to do so in a way that will not diminish the amenity of the region and the lifestyle that most of us seek to preserve. While Morningside reserves the right to continue to manage its own commercial activities and the content of its publications, it wishes to see the creation of such associations whose recommendations and suggestions would be most carefully considered in guiding such content.
A possible structure of these relationships in the longer term are shown below:
Because of the limited resources available in the region, this structure may take some time to develop fully and is only suggested as a possibility at this stage.
